About
"Everything is connected. Patterns learned in one field can be applied in other fields."
Hello there! I'm Bisu, a multidisciplinary artist and designer passionate about exploring the nature of meaning through various media. An abundance of curiosity has led me to study a variety of disciplines including graphic design, film and videography, interaction design, animation, writing, and painting.
Bisu = Biswajith Manimaran
I studied from 1st to 12th grade in The Valley School (Bangalore) - a school founded by Jiddu Krishnamurti - which emphasized the importance of questioning everything and thinking for oneself. Here I was able to cultivate my existing love of science and philosophy and develop a passion for the arts through painting, carpentry, pottery, sculpture and weaving.
I received a Bachelor's Degree in Art and Design after a four year course at Srishti Institute of Art Design and Technology (Bangalore), where I studied graphic design, film and animation. During this period I also began to teach myself programming with the intention of building websites, apps and video games.
I studied information experience design in Royal College of Art (London) for my Master's Degree in Art. My focus during this period was interaction design, covering interactive art, video games and information delivery systems.
I have spent the past fifteen years working on numerous projects across various fields including graphic design and branding, short films, ad campaigns, websites, apps, video games, interactive art installations and much, much more. I love learning new skills and I relish the challenge of facing new problems.
Purpose and Process
I see
I think
I play
I make
It all starts with observation.
Then cook it with logic.
Poke, test, and experiment.
Listen to what it wants to be.
A multidisciplinary approach in art and design can foster creativity and innovation by breaking out of stagnant modes of thought resulting from traditional boundaries between disciplines. My varied background has the benefit of unique perspectives as well as a comprehensive overview, resulting in dynamic and thought-provoking works that defy categorization. For example the way I arrange chords when composing music is influenced by my understanding of colour theory. I have a vision of a multidisciplinary future, where cross-pollination of ideas can help artists advance their respective fields and birth new ones.
A Multidisciplinary Approach
If a task is too easy it becomes boring. If a task is too hard it becomes frustrating. If a task is just challenging enough, it is engaging.
This is the simple philosophy I apply to my studies and my work. I find that my productivity is maximized, in the short and long term, when I am challenged, keeping me happy and focused.
